Transformative Dollmaking with Pamela
Pamela will be leading an online learning experience, Doll Making as a Transformative Process, through Healing and Transformative Dolls.
This class will allow participants to explore your own processes more deeply, using projects and examples not in the book, and with regular email discussions with Pamela and each other during the process. You may use the class to explore personal issues or to play with different mixed media forms. Go as deeply or as lightly as you like, with as much or as little interaction as is comfortable for you. This experience will also be valuable for teachers and art therapists, giving you a new vocabulary of simple-to-make projects. Each of the six sessions will give you both cloth and paper/mixed media projects. We will work with simple doll forms to express and explore deep feelings. This medium is less threatening than painting or writing, and participants are encouraged to go as deeply or as lightly as you would like. Project: creating a Transformative journal, collecting personal transformative symbols, words, and other inspiration. Make an all-purpose fabric icon (as shown) that can be used in any of the sessions and a paper doll pattern and demo. Session 2: Self Transformation: Creating a vehicle to see where we've been and where we'd like to be. Projects: wrapped doll, shrine for focusing energy and intention. Session 3: Transforming interpersonal relationships, moving through and beyond anger, getting past helplessness, seeing more clearly. Project: Simple cloth or paper dolls that interact, two-sided or two-ended fabric doll pattern, a low-tech photo transfer technique. Session 4: Transformation/Healing: Physical and spiritual--using doll making as a way to feel how we are feeling and to focus healing energy...what's possible and what's not. Making healing dolls on behalf of others. Project: A simple doll that can be adapted to the particular part that needs healing, in cloth and paper. A Cupboard of positive thoughts (in miniature)--a paper, cardboard, and embellishment project. Session 5: Transformative Doll Making as a way of understand and perhaps impacting world and community events--what others have done and what you can do. A summary about doing Doll Making as a Transformative Process in future groups. Projects: A challenge or pass-around doll in fabric and paper. A Blessing Doll for the world or your favorite cause. Session 6: Bringing the Class to a Conclusion A high speed connection to the internet is recommended for all students. In order to participate in online classes you are expected to have basic computer and internet skills. You need to be able to browse the internet, know how to download and save a document to your PC's hard drive, and understand how to open and save email attachments. It is your responsibility to learn these skills before the class begins. Group will be formed on yahoogroups. Please be certain you are comfortable with all of these skills.
